Membership Information
The Russian Numismatic Society (RNS), organized in 1978, is a non-profit group of collectors and students interested in the field of Russian numismatics. The Society currently publishes an 84 page Journal (Index) twice a year (Summer and Winter), and a 16 page Newsletter (Spring and Fall). The Journal and Newsletter feature original articles; translations and abstracts not readily accessible in English; highlights reports on auction results; reports on recent forgeries, with diagnostic details; reviews of books on Russian numismatic subjects, including original works, translations, and reprints. RNS members may purchase books offered by the Society at a discount; a complete book list will be provided with membership.
The Society holds its annual meeting each year at the New York International Coin Convention (NYINC) in January as well as an informal meeting at the Chicago International Coin Fair (April).
The Society takes the broadest view of the scope of Russian numismatics, including the study of coinage, paper money, tokens and jetons, medals, awards, orders and decorations, and the history of the production of the various objects. The Society's aim is to be helpful and useful to as wide a range of interests as possible. Member's comments, criticisms and advice are our surest guide. If you should be moved to share your knowledge, experience or research results, please write to the Journal Editor so that you and he together can plan your contribution to have the fullest impact.
